A well-established NHS Older Adult Mental Health Service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide specialist care for patients over 65 years old with mental health disorders such as dementia, late-onset schizophrenia, depression, and complex psychiatric conditions. The role involves both inpatient and community-based care, offering the opportunity to work in a collaborative MDT setting alongside geriatricians, psychologists, and social care professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive memory assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Lead medication reviews, risk assessments, and cognitive behavioral management strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care teams, neurology departments, and care homes to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.
  • Offer psychoeducation and support to carers and families.
  • Act as a Responsible Clinician (RC) under the Mental Health Act, participating in tribunals and capacity assessments.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and specialty trainees.

Requirements:

  • GMC registration with CCT in Old Age Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry with relevant experience.
  • Expertise in neurocognitive disorders, complex psychotropic medication management, and behavioral interventions.
  • Excellent ability to work with multi-agency teams including social services and dementia specialists.
