An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry to join our esteemed NHS client’s dynamic inpatient team based in Colchester, Essex. This position is available for an immediate start, offering competitive rates.
Responsibilities
- The Consultant in Adult Psychiatry will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments and treatment for inpatients, as well as Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) work under a direct engagement model.
- They will develop and implement individualised treatment plans to address psychiatric conditions and improve patients' quality of life.
- Providing therapeutic interventions, including medication management and psychotherapy, is a core part of the role.
- The consultant will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care and effective discharge planning.
- Educating patients and their families about psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and strategies for managing symptoms is essential.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting progress, and adjusting treatment plans as necessary is crucial.
- Participation in team meetings, case conferences, and contributing to service development initiatives are expected.
- Providing supervision and support to junior staff and students, as well as engaging in continuous professional development activities to stay current with best practices in psychiatry, are also important aspects of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full registration with the appropriate professional body.
- Section 12 approval.
- Expertise in psychiatric assessments and interventions.
- A high level of clinical skills as evidenced by peer review and reports.

- Willingness to work flexibly across a range of clinic models, venues, and days of the week.
- Good communication skills and level of IT literacy.
