This University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Consultant Paediatrician to join our expanding team. This 10 PA post offers the opportunity to develop a specialist interest in acute leukaemia, myeloid disorders, and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic department delivering high-quality care and contributing to teaching, research, and service development.

Requirements

  • Full registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics (or within 6 months of interview)
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications and Fellowship of a Royal College (e.g., FRCPath)
  • Experience in managing both malignant and non-malignant paediatric haematological conditions
  • Commitment to teamwork, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement

Typical Job Plan and Duties

  • Direct clinical care including paediatric outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Development of a subspecialty interest in areas such as acute leukaemia, myeloid malignancies, or stem cell transplantation
  • Participation in the on-call rota for haematology emergencies
  • Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Involvement in clinical governance, audit, and service development
  • Opportunities to engage in research and clinical trials

About the Department

  • A team of 11 consultant haematologists, supported by 5 specialty registrars, 1 academic clinical fellow, and junior doctors
  • Provides Level 3 Haematology care and autologous stem cell transplantation through a JACIE-accredited service
  • Outpatient services delivered in a dedicated unit
  • Inpatients managed on a joint Oncology & Haematology ward
  • Children with blood disorders cared for at the nearby children’s hospital
  • The department is active in clinical trials, basic science research, and undergraduate teaching at the local Medical School
