Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust are proud to have a Brand New, State of the Art hospital as our new patient centred care giving offering for our local residents. Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opened in October 2024 and provides cutting edge care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises which are flooded with natural light. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities. Your role will largely be based at the new site offering the opportunity to work with state of the art equipment which will allow you fulfil your potential.

What we need from you:

  • MRCP Qualified
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Geriatrics, Acute Medicine or Neurology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Stroke Medicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
  • Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team
  • Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
  • Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision-making
  • The ability to appraise junior doctors and other staff

Your duties will include:

  • To collaborate and work to maintain Stroke services in line with strategic requirement
  • To provide, with the other Consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency stroke services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out-of-hours cover, and cover for annual, study and professional leave
  • To provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust
  • To develop a special interest to complement those of the existing Consultants in Stroke and in accordance with the priorities of the Trust
  • To participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics and general practitioners
  • To liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust
  • To contribute to the development of the service, renewal of treatment guidelines and the promotion of greater knowledge of the management of stroke and cardiovascular multimorbidity in the community
  • To demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of clinical governance
