We are currently recruiting for a Locum Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join a specialist Tier 4 CAMHS inpatient service in Staffordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children and adolescents presenting with complex mental health needs within a highly structured, therapeutic environment.

You will play a key leadership role within a multidisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based psychological interventions and shaping care pathways for young people requiring intensive inpatient support. The service works closely with NHS CAMHS, commissioners, and local authorities across the region, providing high-quality assessment, treatment, and risk management within a secure and supportive setting. This role offers a strong clinical leadership remit, excellent team support, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference at a critical stage in young people’s recovery journeys.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention to children and adolescents with complex mental health difficulties
  • Lead on the psychological provision within the MDT, contributing to care planning, risk assessment, and discharge planning
  • Deliver evidence-based therapies tailored to young people in an inpatient setting
  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership to psychology colleagues and the wider team
  • Support service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with families, carers, and external agencies including CAMHS teams and local authorities
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and ensure high standards of clinical governance

Qualifications and ExperienceEssential:
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Psychologist
  • Significant post-qualification experience working with children and young people
  • Experience working within CAMHS settings, ideally with complex or high-risk presentations
  • Strong formulation, risk management, and MDT working skills
Desirable:
  • Previous experience at Principal or Consultant level or in a senior leadership role
  • Experience within Tier 4 / inpatient CAMHS settings
  • Training in evidence-based therapies relevant to adolescents (e.g. CBT, DBT, systemic approaches)
