We are hiring a Senior Power Systems Engineer to develop and validate dynamic models for our battery energy storage systems (BESS). Responsibilities include:
- Develop, validate, and maintain dynamic simulation models for PCE BESS, renewables, inverter-based resources, and plant controllers using PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory, and similar tools.
- Build and refine models from first principles to accurately represent control algorithms, protection schemes, and plant behaviour.
- Optimize model parameters to ensure grid stability and improve standalone BESS performance.
- Convert simulation algorithms into practical software modules (Python or similar) for automated workflows and faster delivery.
- Conduct integration studies and dynamic assessments for hybrid renewable plants, emphasising model-to-field alignment and ongoing improvements.
- Act as a technical modelling expert for project developers, utilities, and grid operators.
- Work with business development and project teams during pre-sales, proposals, and execution to deliver dynamic models and technical solutions.
- Support design, commissioning, and operations by troubleshooting model performance and managing handover.
- Provide training and share expertise on model assumptions, usage, and best practices for dynamic studies.
Qualifications:
- D. in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Proven expertise in developing and validating models for inverter-based resources, renewable energy systems (including BESS, solar PV, and hybrid plants), as well as power plant controllers.
- Prior experience as a Compliance Engineer or completing grid compliance studies would be beneficial.
- Advanced proficiency in PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and at least one scripting language such as Python, MATLAB, or Fortran.
