At Pulse Clean Energy, we are passionate about changing energy systems for the better. To do this we are building a team of people who can bring diversity of thought, expertise and ideas to tackle big issues that will have a positive impact on our lives and the lives of those around us!
We invite you to join our growing, entrepreneurial team who want to make net zero a reality.
About the Role:
The Commercial Asset Analyst will support the commercial and financial management of Pulse Clean Energy's operational BESS portfolio. Including, but not limited to, managing operational BESS contracts, helping to maximise asset value and ensure projects perform in line with budgets, business plans and investment expectations. The role will report into the Commercial Asset Manager and work closely with the Technical Asset Managers, Finance and Commercial teams as well as external service providers.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded individual with 2-3 years' relevant experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities, energy markets or asset management who is looking to develop specialist expertise in the rapidly growing BESS sector.
Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day commercial management of operational BESS assets and take ownership of routine asset management activities.
- Support the administration of key asset-level contracts, including optimisation or route-to-market agreements, O&M agreements, long-term service agreements, connection agreements, land agreements, insurance policies and other operational contracts.
- Maintain contract obligation trackers and monitor milestones, indexation, service levels, availability guarantees, performance requirements and payment obligations.
- Maintain and improve asset management database, recording all key asset information, updating and communicating across the business as required.
- Monitor asset revenue, operating expenditure and commercial performance against budgets, forecasts, business plans and investment assumptions.
- Review and reconcile supplier invoices, optimiser statements, contractual payments and asset-level costs, working closely with Finance to resolve discrepancies and look for opportunities to improve financial performance.
- Analyse actual performance against forecast, investigate variances and coordinate actions with Technical Asset Management, Finance, Commercial and optimisation partners.
- Monitor the commercial impact of asset availability, outages, operational restrictions, battery degradation and other technical performance issues.
- Support annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and assessment of cost assumptions. Support the identification, evaluation and management of contractual claims, performance deductions, warranty matters and commercial disputes.
- Support commercial due diligence, asset onboarding and the handover of newly constructed or acquired assets into operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting quality, contract management and the commercial performance of the portfolio.
What you need to succeed:
- 2-3 years' relevant professional experience, ideally within BESS, renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities, energy markets, investment or technical asset management.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, Energy, Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Good commercial and financial understanding, with experience working with budgets, forecasts, invoices or performance data.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with advanced attention to detail and the ability to identify and explain performance variances.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial models, large datasets and asset reporting tools.
- Ability to read and interpret commercial contracts, summarise key obligations and monitor compliance.
- Knowledge of UK electricity markets, BESS revenue streams or energy optimisation arrangements would be advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to colleagues and stakeholders at different levels.
- Very organised, with the ability to manage multiple assets, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, growing work environment.
- Proactive and commercially curious, with a continuous improvement mindset and the confidence to elevate risks and propose solutions.
- Able to build credibility and effective working relationships with internal teams, contractors, suppliers and commercial partners.
- Willing and able to travel to operational project sites around the UK as required.
- Reflect our company values of Teamwork, Leadership and Ethical Stewardship.
