We invite you to join our growing, entrepreneurial team who want to make net zero a reality.

We are hiring a Senior Power Systems Engineer to develop and validate dynamic models for our battery energy storage systems (BESS). This position centres on creating high-fidelity dynamic models for BESS sites, supporting grid integration studies, stability assessments, and automated power system workflows using industry-standard tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, validate, and maintain dynamic simulation models for PCE BESS, renewables, inverter-based resources, and plant controllers using PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory, and similar tools.
  • Build and refine models from first principles to accurately represent control algorithms, protection schemes, and plant behaviour.
  • Optimize model parameters to ensure grid stability and improve standalone BESS performance.
  • Convert simulation algorithms into practical software modules (Python or similar) for automated workflows and faster delivery.
  • Conduct integration studies and dynamic assessments for hybrid renewable plants, emphasizing model-to-field alignment and ongoing improvements.
  • Act as a technical modelling expert for project developers, utilities, and grid operators.
  • Work with business development and project teams during pre-sales, proposals, and execution to deliver dynamic models and technical solutions.
  • Support design, commissioning, and operations by troubleshooting model performance and managing handover.
  • Provide training and share expertise on model assumptions, usage, and best practices for dynamic studies.
  • Improve internal modelling tools, libraries, and scripts for better accuracy, speed, and standardization.
  • Document lessons learned and update modelling guidelines and templates.
  • Stay informed about changes in grid requirements and renewable integration.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience, with a strong emphasis on practical dynamic model development beyond simulation studies.
  • Proven expertise in developing and validating models for inverter-based resources, renewable energy systems (including BESS, solar PV, and hybrid plants), as well as power plant controllers.
  • Prior experience as a Compliance Engineer or completing grid compliance studies would also be beneficial.
  • Advanced proficiency in PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and at least one scripting language such as Python, MATLAB, or Fortran.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power system dynamics, control theory, and grid integration of inverter-based resources.
  • Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
