We are now looking for an experienced Inspector to join our Assurance team.
This is a key role responsible for ensuring rolling stock components, systems and assemblies meet the highest safety, quality and compliance standards throughout the overhaul process.
Applicants must have a strong mechanical engineering or inspection background, ideally within rolling stock, heavy engineering or a similar industrial environment.
Candidates should possess a good understanding of engineering standards, quality assurance processes and defect identification, with the ability to interpret technical documentation and carry out detailed inspections.
Please note that only applicants with a mechanical or inspection background will be considered for this position.
About the role
As a Shift Skilled Fitter, you will undertake the overhaul, repair, assembly and disassembly of a wide range of traction and rolling stock components.
Working as part of a skilled production team, you will ensure all work is completed in accordance with engineering specifications, company procedures and quality standards.
You will identify defects, maintain accurate documentation and support continuous improvement while promoting safe working practices throughout the workshop.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out the assembly, disassembly, overhaul and repair of traction and rolling stock components in accordance with engineering instructions and technical specifications.
- Interpret engineering drawings, diagrams and work instructions to complete work accurately.
- Ensure all required components are available, serviceable and meet quality requirements before commencing work.
- Use the appropriate methods, techniques and tools to safely dismantle and reassemble components.
- Secure components using the correct connectors and fastening methods.
- Identify faults, defects or performance issues and report any problems outside your area of responsibility.
- Prevent damage to components, tools and equipment during overhaul and maintenance activities.
- Assess the condition of removed components and accurately record those requiring replacement.
- Label, store or dispose of removed components in accordance with company procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities and support colleagues across the production team as required.
About you
We are looking for someone who has
- A completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Traction & Rolling Stock or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience in mechanical fitting, overhaul or maintenance within rolling stock, rail, heavy engineering or a similar industrial environment.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical diagrams and work instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent attention to detail.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently using initiative.
- Experience maintaining accurate maintenance and inspection records.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges
