We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Letchworth UK Team at Curtiss Wright Avionics, Video and Systems.

Job Summary

You will be responsible for implementing all aspects of the electronic design and development process, from initial concept through to the completion of sealed data packs. You will liaise with software engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing and sales to ensure the product is fit for purpose, cost‑effective and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Participate individually and as part of an integrated project team in the design of the company’s products.
  • Design and develop ruggedised computer system (VPX based) or video products.
  • Maintain the existing product line including obsolescence management, periodic circuit uplift and production support.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring allocated qualification tests (temperature, vibration, EMC and others) are completed successfully, both in‑house and at external test houses.
  • Write formal design documentation.
  • Attend and actively contribute to the effective operation of applicable design reviews.
  • Support and guide junior colleagues in technical matters.
  • Undertake new technology evaluation and introduction in product designs.
  • Accept technical responsibility for allocated design tasks.
  • Assist Production Engineering in the introduction of equipment into manufacture in a cost‑effective and timely manner.
  • Represent the Hardware function internally and externally.
  • Travel within the UK and internationally as required (infrequent).

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate technical subject.
  • Relevant experience in embedded systems, specifically integration of VPX PC cards, digital and analogue design.
  • Familiar with high‑end Intel Xeons and NXP Power‑PC VPX single‑board computers.
  • Familiar with schematic design using ORCAD/Altium or similar package.
  • Familiar with PCIe interface operation and design.
  • Familiar with DC‑DC PSU design.
