About the role

We’re introducing an exciting new Tenancy Relations Officer role in response to recent changes in rental legislation creating a unique opportunity to shape how these new standards are delivered in practice. As a Tenancy Relations Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance with new rental laws, supporting tenants and landlords, and promoting fair and safe housing standards across the community. You’ll investigate complaints, provide expert guidance, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to resolve tenancy issues effectively and proactively.

We’re seeking someone with strong knowledge of housing legislation and a genuine interest in tenant welfare. You might come from a background in:

  • Housing or tenancy management
  • Legal or regulatory services
  • Estate agency or property management

Your ability to interpret legislation, communicate clearly, and manage sensitive situations will be essential. The successful candidate will be required to travel across the three districts, with opportunities for flexible and home working to support a healthy work–life balance.

You will need:

  • A minimum qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3 or A level.
  • Relevant experience in a housing field and landlord tenant relations.
  • Knowledge and experience in assessing complex situations and carrying out inspections.
  • Able to effectively manage and prioritise workloads, in pressurised situations.
  • Ability to remain calm and confident when dealing with challenging customers and environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on tenancy relations and enforcement under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
  • Investigate cases of harassment and illegal eviction, taking legal action where appropriate.
  • Contribute to and implement policies and procedures to improve private sector housing standards.
  • Provide expert advice to Housing Options teams to help sustain tenancies and prevent homelessness.
  • Inspect properties and assess complex housing situations.
  • Deliver training and guidance to landlords, tenants, colleagues, and partner agencies.
  • Manage casework and investigations through to resolution.
