We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Protection Officer to join our dedicated team. This pivotal specialist role involves providing expert regulatory, advisory and enforcement services across a range of environmental protection functions.
As a senior officer within the Noise & Amenity Team, you will play a key role in ensuring the Council fulfils its statutory responsibilities under environmental legislation, while helping to protect and enhance the quality of life of our communities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the lead specialist on acoustics, noise pollution and environmental nuisance matters.
- Investigating complex noise complaints and environmental protection cases.
- Reviewing planning and licensing applications and providing expert recommendations from an Environmental Health perspective.
- Preparing technical reports and regulatory responses.
- Representing the service at court proceedings, licensing hearings, planning.
The successful candidate will be a confident, resilient and customer-focused professional with strong technical expertise and sound judgement. You will be comfortable managing complex and sensitive cases, working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, and making robust decisions in a dynamic and challenging environment.

You will need:
- Degree in Environmental Health, Acoustics, or a related discipline.
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental protection or a related field.
- Strong experience in planning and licensing consultations.
- Proven ability to investigate and resolve complex environmental issues with strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Special Conditions:
- There may be a requirement to work at other Publica Group (Support) Ltd and/or client locations to meet the needs of the business.
- You will be expected to work reasonable additional hours in line with the needs of the service.
- Full UK Driving License.
- Ability to travel/access to a vehicle for work purposes.
