Interim Health & Safety Manager to provide competent H&S leadership and advice across the organisation.

This is a key role responsible for managing and continually improving the organisation’s Health & Safety framework, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance while embedding a strong, proactive culture of health and safety across operational teams.

The Role

As Interim Health & Safety Manager, you will act as the organisation’s

H&S subject matter expert , providing strategic and operational advice to colleagues, senior leadership and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading and continuously improving the organisation’s Health & Safety management framework, policies and procedures.
  • Providing competent advice on statutory H&S and environmental requirements and ensuring appropriate compliance and assurance.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of strategic and operational H&S plans.
  • Working across the organisation to embed a positive and proactive health & safety culture .
  • Monitoring H&S performance, identifying risks and driving corrective actions through to completion.
  • Supporting and, where required, leading accident and incident investigations , including root cause analysis and preventative actions.
  • Providing advice and oversight around operational H&S risks, including construction, building works and CDM requirements .
  • Developing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements, construction phase plans and other H&S documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate H&S data and producing high-quality management information, reports and recommendations for senior leadership, committees and Board.
  • Developing and delivering H&S communications, presentations and training to managers and operational teams.
  • Keeping abreast of changes to H&S legislation, guidance and best practice and ensuring these are reflected across the organisation.
  • Working collaboratively with external agencies, partners and stakeholders to promote best practice.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who can operate confidently at both strategic and operational level and can influence stakeholders across an organisation.

You will ideally have

NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent as a minimum; NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 5 qualification would be advantageous.

IOSH membership/status at a minimum technical level.

  • Proven experience working in a Health & Safety management role, ideally within housing, social housing, construction or a similarly complex operational environment .
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of

CDM, construction health & safety and operational risk management .

  • Experience developing and implementing H&S policies, procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Experience investigating accidents/incidents and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Strong understanding of H&S legislation, guidance and best practice.
  • Experience producing management information, reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively from operational teams through to senior leadership.
  • A proactive approach to identifying risk and driving continuous improvement.
