On behalf of Government Legal Department, we are looking for a Legal Project Manager (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. This is a hybrid working role (three days per week office based - London/Leeds/Salford/Manchester or Bristol).

The Legal Delivery Division sits within the Legal Operations Directorate of the COO Group within GLD. The Legal Operations Directorate aligns existing cross functions and skills, and creates new complimentary roles and capabilities, to collaborate and identify ways for GLD to become ever more efficient in the support of legal teams. The work of the Legal Delivery Division is core to the future effectiveness of GLD's legal work.

Job Purpose: The post holder as a Legal Project Manager, G7, will play a pivotal role in driving the successful delivery of legal projects across GLD and will report directly to the SCS1 Head of the Legal Delivery Division. The role will be suited to someone from a project management background with extensive experience of working within a legal operations environment skilled in helping to drive efficiency and enhancing service delivery through data‑driven and technology‑enabled methods. The role will suit someone who is able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment and across separate functions with competing priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand challenges and drive process improvements.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and develop comprehensive plans with clear timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, monitor spend and provide financial reporting to ensure cost‑effective delivery.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day project execution, coordinating teams and proactively addressing risks to ensure timely delivery.
  • Act as a liaison, leading meetings and ensuring transparent, aligned communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously analyse and enhance workflows, implementing best practices and technology to improve efficiency.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring all deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Lead change initiatives and deliver training to embed project management practices and support adoption of new tools.
  • Conduct post‑project evaluations, report on performance metrics, and use feedback to drive continuous improvement.

Essential:

  • Previous experience of creating project plans and trackers, managing scope, timelines and project deliverables.
  • Able to build good working relationships.
  • Previous experience working within Legal Project Management.
  • Works well with change and improvement management.
  • Experience of managing a busy and complex caseload.
  • Sound judgement, problem solving and analytical skills.

Desirable:

  • Prince2, MSP, APM knowledge of Agile, preferably also Lean methodologies.
