On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Oracle DBA for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract, based Hybrid in Blackpool, Manchester or Newcastle.

About the role: We are looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to join DWP's HCS Database Platforms team. This team supports the database services that underpin some of the most critical systems in the UK, directly affecting the daily lives of millions of citizens. You’ll support and enhance DWP’s mission critical Oracle database platforms, including on prem and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). You’ll be working alongside highly skilled Database Specialists and Engineers who ensure DWP services are designed, delivered and maintained to high standards, using agile methods and robust engineering practices.

As a Senior Oracle DBA your main responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting highly available Oracle databases across Linux and AIX environments.
  • Managing Oracle RAC, ASM, AFD, HANFS, and TAF.
  • Implementing, automating and maintaining HA/DR solutions including Data Guard.
  • Performing patching, upgrades, performance tuning and resilience improvements.
  • Leading RMAN backup and recovery strategies.
  • Supporting Exadata and Base Database deployments in OCI.
  • Using OEM and OCI DB Management tools.
  • Writing and debugging infrastructure as code (Terraform and Ansible).
  • Managing Git workflows and GitLab runners including OIDC authentication.
  • Implementing security controls including network segregation, TLS transport encryption and TDE.
  • Conducting migration testing using tools such as Data Pump, GoldenGate and ZDM.

Essential:

  • Oracle RDBMS 11.2 to 23ai, including RAC, ASM, AFD, HANFS and TAF
  • Linux and/or AIX operating environments
  • RMAN backup and recovery
  • OEM and OCI DB Management
  • Patching and upgrades for mission critical systems
  • Data Guard design, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Data migration tools (Data Pump, GoldenGate, ZDM)
  • Exadata and Base DB configuration within OCI
  • Oracle technologies across public cloud environments (OCI and ideally AWS)
  • Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation
  • Git repositories and modern CI/CD workflows
  • Cloud security practices including network segregation, encryption in transit and encryption at rest (TLS, TDE)

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active SC clearance.

Desirable:

  • Broader experience with AWS
  • Additional Oracle security hardening experience
