On behalf of FCDO, we are looking for a Senior Data Architect (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month Remote contract with occasional trips to London. Note: DV would be preferred; however, SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role. As a minimum, you must be willing and eligible to undergo checks. Preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
Responsibilities:
- Sets the vision for the organisation's use of data, through data design, to meet business needs.
- Designs and builds data models to fulfil the strategic data needs of the business as defined by chief data architects.
- Design, support and provide guidance for the upgrade, management, de-commission and archive of data in compliance with data policy; provide input into data dictionaries.
Skills we need:
- Translate and accurately communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Undertake data profiling and source system analysis.
- Responsible for the assurance of data solutions and make recommendations.
- Aware of opportunities for innovation with new tools.
- Produce, maintain and update relevant data models.
- Knowledge of modelling frameworks and standards (UML, TOGAF etc.) and tools (MooD, Visio is fine, erwin is better).
- Develop data standards for a specific component (relational, dimensional, patterns, FAIR principles etc., x-gov and industry best practices and standards).
- Work with metadata repositories to complete complex tasks (MS Purview).
- Initiate actions, monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems.
- Design data architecture to address specific business problems.
- Work with data product teams (FCDO staff and other suppliers) who have a range of data knowledge and competence.
- Your ability to consult and represent the data architecture function is key to define how teams can deliver good data architecture.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Purview is beneficial and familiarity with Microsoft data technologies, from PaaS (SQL Server, Synapse) to SaaS (Fabric), and Databricks is required.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft stack and Databricks or the ability to learn new technologies quickly and how your baseline data architecture skills can be applied.
- Knowledge of a range of data patterns and data types - relational, dimensional, structured and unstructured data, medallion architecture pattern, API patterns, security, integrations.
- Knowledge of data management and governance processes and practices (DMBoK).
Qualifications:
- Professional qualifications and a background in data is expected, where candidates will likely have come from a background that provides a good data architecture foundation, such as software development, data engineering and technology and infrastructure.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
