On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for a Part time Finance Administrator (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based in Exeter in the office 6 days per Month with additional in person working encouraged to support learning and effective collaboration. The Finance Administrator (Part Time) works as part of a team of Assistant Business Accountants and reports directly to a Finance Business Partner. The role provides essential financial administration support to help ensure the accurate and timely delivery of monthly financial results for the Met Office, while maintaining compliance with government financial procedures and controls.
The post holder will support a range of routine and ad hoc finance activities, contributing to effective financial management, governance, and reporting across the organisation. As a Finance Administrator (Part Time) your main responsibilities will be:
- Support month-end processes, including compiling, reviewing, and posting journals to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate and well-organised financial records, with particular responsibility for files relating to EU-funded contracts, ensuring audit readiness and compliance with funding requirements.
- Provide advice and guidance to Government Procurement Card (GPC) holders, helping users understand policies and correct processes.
- Monitor GPC reconciliations to ensure timely completion and adherence to government and organisational financial controls.
- Assist in the completion of mandated financial surveys, ensuring data accuracy and submission within required deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with Assistant Business Accountants and Finance Business Partners to resolve queries and support ongoing financial activity. Contributing to wider team support as required.
Essential:
- Experience of working in a finance administration or accounting support role.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial controls.
- Ability to carry out accurate data entry and maintain financial records to a high standard.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet monthly deadlines.
- Confidence in communicating clearly with a range of stakeholders, including non-finance colleagues.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in using financial systems and standard Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Commitment to following governance, compliance, and audit requirements, particularly within a government or public sector environment.
- Willing and eligible to get SC clearance.
