The Head of Investments supports the CFIO in the development & implementation of Pool Re's investment strategy, playing a leading role in the ongoing oversight of the execution and performance of investment strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investment Strategy Development
    • Work with the CFIO to assess, develop and continually evolve the investment strategy in alignment with corporate objectives, risk appetite and required governance.
    • Support the execution of regular Strategic Asset Allocation reviews, Tactical Asset Allocation considerations and risk management initiatives, contributing to the ongoing development of the frameworks and approaches utilized.
    • Proactively consider and discuss with the CFIO viable new investment opportunities, supporting the analysis and consideration of such opportunities.
    • Support the CFIO with consideration of the ongoing integration of climate risk and other material ESG related considerations into the investment strategy.
  • Investment Strategy Implementation
    • Develop, maintain and continually improve a robust governance framework, including appropriate documentation and reporting, around the management of investment strategy.
    • In conjunction with the CFIO, continually assess the efficiency of the implementation of investment strategy.
    • Lead the oversight of existing investment managers' performance, compliance & service delivery, and actively seek ways to ensure we are driving appropriate value from these relationships.
    • Lead the reporting of investment performance internally, ensuring key stakeholders receive appropriate information to enable them to consider how well the strategy is performing relative to its objectives, including reporting to Executive Management and Non-Executive Directors as may be required.
    • Oversee the alignment of investment strategy against key internal risk metrics, such as credit, liquidity risk, and ensure appropriate reporting against such metrics.
    • In conjunction with the CFIO, support all stages of the investment manager life cycle, including asset manager selection, periodic asset manager review and, as may be required, asset manager deselection and exit.
    • Review investment manager operational performance through both ongoing relationship management as well as consideration of managers SOC reports.
  • Internal Leadership
    • Work in close co-ordination with other Pool Re functions to support the development of our investment approach, including actuarial to understand the profile of liabilities and with investment accounting to help ensure the accurate and efficient recording of our investment positions, amongst others.
    • As a senior member of the firm, support the CFIO with internal socialization of the investment function's activities and performance, including as required with Executive Management and Non-Executive Directors.
    • From time to time, represent Pool Re externally at industry and asset manager conferences.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of fixed income and equity markets.
  • Whilst being collegial and having the ability to work well in a small team, also a good ability to work independently.
  • Pro-active approach and operates with a keen focus on continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of insurance company regulations and the concept of asset liability matching.
  • Capable of writing sound and logical investment reports and proposals.
  • Accuracy and ability to manage to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of other asset classes, including venture capital, private debt assets, HY and alternatives investments.
  • Considerable experience in the investment industry with a preference of having supported the formulation of insurance asset management strategy, or having undertaken insurance portfolio management.

Qualifications Desirable:

  • CFA or equivalent professional qualification - years of experience can be a substitute.
