About the Role
Great British Energy is looking for a GIS Analyst to join our Development team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Management & Analysis
- Collect, clean, validate, and maintain geospatial datasets from multiple internal and external sources.
- Perform spatial analysis, modelling, and geoprocessing to identify patterns, trends, and relationships that support decision-making.
- Integrate GIS data with other systems and datasets, including asset management, planning, and statistical databases.
- Mapping & Visualisation
- Produce high-quality maps, dashboards, and spatial visualisations for reports, presentations, and digital platforms.
- Develop and apply appropriate cartographic standards, symbology, and visualisation techniques to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Support the development and use of interactive web maps and GIS applications where required.
- Stakeholder Support & Engagement
- Work with internal teams and external stakeholders to define GIS requirements and analytical needs.
- Translate complex spatial analysis into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Provide GIS support to projects, programmes, and operational teams across the organisation.
- Systems & Tools
- Maintain and enhance GIS databases, workflows, and technical documentation.
- Support the use of GIS software and platforms, including ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, and web-based GIS solutions.
- Assist with automation and scripting to improve efficiency and repeatability, including the use of Python and ModelBuilder.
- Governance & Quality
- Ensure data accuracy, metadata standards, version control, and adherence to GIS best practice.
- Comply with data governance, security, and licensing requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of GIS standards, processes, and quality assurance practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Technical Skills
- Strong experience with GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Proven ability in spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and data visualisation.
- Experience working with spatial databases such as PostGIS and SQL Server.
- Basic scripting or automation experience, with Python preferred.
- Good understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, and spatial data formats.
- Knowledge of ESRI Geodatabases and Ordnance Survey data and standards.
- Experience designing, building, and producing professional map outputs.
- Analytical & Communication Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to interpret spatial data and communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills, with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively to tight deadlines and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with web GIS applications and dashboards, such as Experience Builder, Mapbox, or Leaflet.
- Experience supporting policy, planning, or infrastructure-related programmes or projects.
- Understanding of UK geospatial standards, datasets, and open data principles.
Qualifications
- Degree, or equivalent practical experience, in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Planning, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working in a GIS Analyst or similar geospatial role.
- Experience working with large or complex datasets is desirable.
- Knowledge of a relevant sector, such as energy, infrastructure, environment, transport, or the public sector, is an advantage.
