Are you an experienced audit professional ready to step into a management role with real responsibility and autonomy? Do you want to lead audit engagements, manage client relationships and develop a team within a supportive practice environment? This is an excellent opportunity for an Audit Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice in Bideford.

You’ll manage a varied audit portfolio, oversee end-to-end engagements and play a key role in mentoring and developing junior colleagues.

The Role

As Audit Manager, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality audit work from planning through to completion, ensuring both technical excellence and outstanding client service. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of audit clients across a range of sectors.
  • Leading audits from planning and risk assessment through to completion and file sign-off.
  • Preparing audit strategies, budgets and resource plans, ensuring work is delivered efficiently.
  • Reviewing audit files, working papers and statutory accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for clients, handling queries and providing practical, commercial advice.
  • Managing and developing Audit Seniors, Semi Seniors and trainees through coaching and on-the-job support.
  • Monitoring deadlines, workflow and engagement profitability.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues in line with professional standards.
  • Supporting senior leadership with business development, proposals and client onboarding.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of audit processes and methodology.
About You

You’ll be a confident, technically strong audit professional with proven leadership and client-handling skills. You will:

  • Be ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Have significant external audit experience within a UK accountancy practice.
  • Be confident managing audit assignments end-to-end and leading teams.
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of auditing standards and UK GAAP / FRS 102.
  • Have experience reviewing work, managing budgets and supervising staff.
  • Be organised, proactive and comfortable handling multiple client deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be keen to progress toward Senior Audit Manager level over time.
