Tax Manager

We’re working with a well-established and highly regarded accountancy firm in Widnes to recruit an experienced Tax Manager to join their growing private client team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident and technically strong tax professional who enjoys managing client relationships, leading a team, and delivering expert personal tax services. You’ll oversee a varied portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, directors, landlords, and entrepreneurs—handling compliance, advising on complex matters, and identifying planning opportunities.
With clear scope to progress to Senior Manager and beyond, and a culture that values autonomy, collaboration, and internal promotion, this is an excellent move for someone looking to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and forward-thinking practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a diverse personal tax portfolio from initial onboarding through to final review
- Reviewing self-assessment tax returns prepared by junior staff
- Leading on complex tax queries, capital gains calculations, inheritance tax, and trusts
- Providing ad-hoc advisory support to clients on planning opportunities
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and intermediaries
- Overseeing P11D and benefit-in-kind compliance where relevant
- Managing and mentoring junior members of the team, including appraisals and training
- Working closely with Partners on strategic projects and business development
- Staying informed on legislation changes and ensuring best practice across the department
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a personal tax role within a UK accountancy practice
- ATT and/or CTA qualified (or qualified by experience with strong technical knowledge)
- Excellent understanding of personal tax legislation, planning, and compliance
- Previous experience managing a tax portfolio and supporting team members
- Strong client service skills and the ability to communicate confidently and clearly
- A proactive mindset, with an eye for identifying opportunities and solving problems
- Organised, commercially aware, and comfortable juggling multiple deadlines
