A well-established and forward-thinking accountancy firm in Nottingham is looking for an experienced Assistant Client Manager to join their dynamic and growing accounts team. This is a key opportunity for someone eager to take on a hybrid role—managing client portfolios while remaining hands-on with accounts work—and who is ready to move into a full managerial position

This role blends client-facing responsibility with technical expertise. You’ll manage a diverse portfolio of clients, including limited companies and sole traders across a range of sectors. You’ll also help lead the continued development of the firm’s cloud accounting services, especially Xero.

The Role

  • Managing your own portfolio of clients, supporting a range of compliance and advisory needs
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT returns, and bookkeeping records
  • Championing cloud accounting (particularly Xero) and supporting the growth of tech-led services
  • Helping train, mentor, and develop junior team members
  • Collaborating closely with partners and managers to deliver exceptional client service
  • Supporting and delivering internal training across the accounts team
  • Attending client premises as needed and building strong client relationships
  • Interpreting accounting data and providing practical, forward-thinking business advice

About You

  • A professional qualification (AAT/ACA/ACCA) or be qualified by experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and cloud-based tools
  • A good working knowledge of Xero (essential), with experience in Sage, QuickBooks and CCH desirable
  • Proven ability to train junior staff and contribute to team development
  • A passion for helping clients thrive through accurate, timely, and strategic financial insights
  • A proactive, team-focused approach with the ability to work independently when needed
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships
