CONSULTANT IN PUBLIC HEALTH
to join their team.
Grade: Medical Consultant: £106,424 – £139,920 per annum
Non-Medical Consultant: £88,168 – £101,677 per annum
Accountable to: Professionally: Deputy Director of Public Health
Managerially: Assistant Director of Public Health
Job Summary
As part of a team, the post holder will provide specialist leadership, advice and support within the PHA public health team and delivery duties to meet the objectives of the Public Health Agency. You will be responsible for leading the planning and delivery of complex work programmes within multidisciplinary teams and to work collaboratively with PHA staff and other colleagues.
In this role, you will also maintain and develop effective working relationships with the wide variety of individuals and organisations involved in the protection and improvement of the health of the population providing expert knowledge and guidance. In particular, you will need to work closely with others in local, regional and national partnerships which may include DoH, SPPG, HSC Trusts, Primary Care, local Councils, Community & Voluntary section partners, UKHSA, NHS England, PH Scotland, PH Wales and HSE (ROI).
You will be expected to be able to cope with multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines. To apply, you will display a high level of intellectual rigour, negotiation and motivation skills, flexibility in dealing with complex public health issues, and be able to advise and make recommendations regarding services and patient care. A high level of tact and diplomacy is required and an ability to understand other cultures to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and influencing without authority.
Essential Criteria
- In line with current legislation, inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List
Or
inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application
Or
Public health specialty registrar applicants who are currently on the UK public health training programme and not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List in dental public health or UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview - If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
- If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), OR be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with the requirements of the Faculty of Public Health/Royal College of Pathologists/Royal College of Physicians or other recognised body
- MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment, or equivalent
Desirable Criteria
- Masters in Public Health or equivalent
