The Financial Controller is responsible for the overall integrity, accuracy, and governance of the General Ledger, ensuring financial records are complete and reconciled to trial balance level. The role leads the Record to Report (R2R) function, overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance, while managing a team to deliver timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial information. The position plays a key role in financial control, risk management, and business partnering, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • 3-year Accounting Degree or Diploma (Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting / R2R (with leadership exposure)
  • SAP or ERP system experience advantageous
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Team Oversight
    • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the General Ledger
    • Review and approve:
      • Journals
      • Accruals and provisions
      • Adjustments
    • Oversee team activities and ensure compliance with accounting policies
  • Reconciliations & Financial Control
    • Oversee preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations
    • Ensure reconciling items are investigated and resolved
    • Maintain strong audit trails and supporting documentation
    • Monitor reconciliation completion and aging across the team
  • Month-End Close Management
    • Manage and coordinate the month-end close process
    • Ensure adherence to the close calendar and deadlines
    • Review completeness and accuracy of:
      • Journals
      • Accruals
      • Reconciliations
  • Financial Reporting
    • Review and approve:
      • P&L
      • Balance Sheet
    • Ensure delivery of accurate and timely management reporting
    • Provide high-level financial insight to senior stakeholders
  • Financial Analysis & Commentary
    • Lead financial analysis across the business
    • Review and enhance variance analysis and commentary
    • Provide insights into performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Budgeting, Cost Management & Allocations
    • Oversee budgeting and forecasting inputs
    • Ensure proper cost allocation across:
      • Cost centres
      • Profit centres
    • Monitor cost trends and support cost optimisation initiatives
  • Risk Management, Compliance & Audit
    • Ensure compliance with:
      • IFRS
      • Internal controls and policies
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks
    • Lead audit engagements and respond to audit queries
    • Ensure all reporting is audit-ready
  • Business Partnering
    • Partner with:
      • Finance Business Analysts (FBAs)
      • Operational teams
      • Senior stakeholders
    • Provide financial guidance and decision support
    • Resolve escalated financial and accounting issues
  • Fixed Assets Oversight (where applicable)
    • Oversee asset register management
    • Ensure accurate capitalisation, depreciation, and reporting
  • Leadership & Continuous Improvement
    • Manage and develop the R2R team
    • Drive process improvements, standardisation, and automation
    • Strengthening financial controls and reporting efficiency
