The Construction Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a positive safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) culture across projects and operations. The role involves providing competent advice to site management and supervisors, ensuring compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and safe systems of work. The officer supports project teams by delivering inductions, daily briefings, and RAMS reviews, maintaining up-to-date safety documentation, and ensuring all personnel receive appropriate training and communication to carry out their work safely and effectively.

The Health and Safety Officer will also play a key role in monitoring performance through audits, inspections, and incident management. Their responsibility will include investigating accidents and near misses, preparing reports, implementing corrective actions, and lessons learned to prevent recurrence. The role involves liaising with subcontractors, clients, and management, coordinating inspections, maintaining accurate records, and driving continuous improvement in health and safety standards across the organisation.

  • General
    • Ensure competent advice and assistance is provided so that others such as site managers and supervisors understand their obligations and how to achieve them.
    • Promote a positive SHEQ Culture throughout the organisation through leading by example.
    • Ensure regular updates on all communications to staff within own area.
    • Constantly work with the project team to ensure relevant information is shared and appropriate advice is provided.
  • Company SHEQ Policies, Processes and Systems
    • Ensure the site has the most up-to-date RAMS applicable to all work, induction training and abide by site rules.
    • Regularly check the intranet (Sharepoint) and ensure all necessary information is uploaded for Business Continuity and the Quality of information is acceptable.
  • Safety Training
    • Provide induction briefing to new personnel/staff coming to site.
    • Present daily briefing to the employees first thing in the morning.
    • Take responsibility for reviewing RAMS and revising where necessary.
    • Prepare, update and maintain training plans/matrix for the projects within own responsibility.
    • Ensure that the training plan/matrix is up-to-date and new employees have appropriate training.
  • Accidents, Incidents & Near misses
    • Ensure that all incidents are reported to the SHEQ Manager, Contract Manager (Director) as soon as they are made aware.
    • A written initial incident report is completed and sent to SHEQ Manager within 24 hours.
    • All accidents to be investigated thoroughly, especially those resulting in injury, to prevent re-occurrence and to show due diligence.
  • Audits and Inspections
    • The activities of the organisation will be proactively monitored by carrying out Systems Audit (Environmental, Quality and H&S), H&S Advisory visit, and Clients Site visit.
    • All inspections to be completed through the internal inspection platform/app.
    • Business performance will be reviewed by analysing all site SHEQ audits and inspection records.
    • Learning from all observations/actions and producing safety alerts, toolbox talks, and reviewing MSRA.
  • Sub-contractor
    • Check and approve contractor questionnaire ensuring they have submitted the necessary evidence such as insurance, RAMS, policies etc.
    • Upload and update the contractor information on contractor and supplier list.
    • Liaise with contractors and ensure they are sending competent workforce to our sites.
    • Be the point of contact on matters relating to H&S with the contractor.
  • Other
    • All paper documents created relevant to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality are scanned and uploaded into the system.
    • Training completed on paper are uploaded as soon as possible into the system.
    • Issue Permit as required on the project and close them out once the activity is finished.
    • Co-ordinate with site management to ensure all training requirements are carried out.
    • Disseminate information on time to the site team.
    • Any other responsibility will be shared with you when you start.
