Our client is one of those names in construction and civil engineering that doesn't need much introduction. They're now looking for a Principal Design Engineer with strong temporary works design experience to join them.

This role encompasses the entire range of temporary structures, access solutions, edge protection, and associated works that complex civil projects demand. If you're a well-rounded temporary works engineer who can lead design, mentor a team, and hold your own in a room full of structural engineers and senior stakeholders, read on.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the design and engineering of permanent and temporary works across complex civil projects, covering scaffolding, access platforms, edge protection and associated temporary structures in compliance with TG20, SG4, BS EN 12811 and CDM regulations.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including site, structural, architectural and specialist subcontractors, while attending temporary works coordination meetings, risk assessments and constructability reviews.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and scaffold coordinators, conducting site visits to validate installations and resolve design or safety issues.

What we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience in structural and temporary works design within civil engineering or construction, with strong working knowledge of TG20:21, SG4:22 and temporary works best practice.
  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (Masters preferred), with Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software including AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD Pro, Tekla Tedds or similar.
