I'm recruiting a Lead Electrical Design Engineer for a fast-growing renewable energy company that develops, designs, builds and maintains solar PV and BESS projects for commercial and utility-scale clients across the UK. What makes them stand out is their end-to-end model. Where many firms in this space outsource design, construction, or maintenance, this business keeps the entire lifecycle in-house, from planning and electrical design through to direct construction, drone inspection, and live monitoring. That means the engineering decisions you make here actually get built, and you stay connected to the outcome. They have a 1GW+ track record including high-profile installations for household-name clients, and they’re currently in a significant growth phase following a recent merger that’s unified their capabilities under one roof.

This is a leadership role. You’ll own the electrical design function end-to-end, LV, MV and HV systems up to 132kV, SLDs, protection studies, earthing, SCADA, cable sizing and grading, while leading a small internal team and managing external design subcontractors. You’ll also be involved in tendering, value engineering, and supporting construction and commissioning teams on the ground. It’s a role that sits at the centre of how projects get delivered, not just drawn. If you’re a Lead who wants a new challenge, or a Senior looking to step up this might be a great opportunity for you!

Key Skills

  • Strong electrical design capability across solar PV and/or BESS projects
  • LV/MV/HV system design including SLDs, protection, earthing and cable calculations
  • Familiarity with BS 7671, G99/G100, ENA recommendations and DNO standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVCase, Trimble or similar

Necessary Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in electrical design within renewables or a closely related power sector
  • Experience leading or mentoring other engineers, formally or informally

Office-based in Colchester, Essex. Salary £55,000 — £75,000 depending on experience. Benefits include a 5% employer pension, life insurance at 4x salary, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, EV salary sacrifice scheme, cycle to work, discretionary bonus, and 2 volunteering days.
