Our client, a leading tier one construction and civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate permanent works design on a major infrastructure scheme. This is a rare chance to take full design ownership on a significant piece of national infrastructure, working for a contractor with a long track record of delivering complex large scale projects across the UK.
The Project
This substantial design and build programme involves permanent works design across a major infrastructure scheme, spanning multidisciplinary civils delivery to tier one standards. You will take design ownership across the full lifecycle, from design management planning through assurance, coordination and technical close out.
As Design Manager, reporting to the Project Manager or Senior Design Manager, you will lead permanent works design activities and design subcontract packages from end to end. You will implement project specific Design Management Plans in line with ISO 9001 and client requirements, manage design assurance, change control and technical compliance, coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs to ensure buildability and safety, and promote value engineering, BIM and Design for Health and Safety. You will also support the commercial side of contractor design, including early warnings and compensation events, and contribute to carbon reduction and sustainable design outcomes.
- Proven experience in a Design Manager role within infrastructure or construction
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards, CDM Regulations and ISO 9001
- Ability to lead design teams and manage complex multidisciplinary interfaces
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
- Experience with BIM and collaborative design processes
