Managing Quantity Surveyor – Major Highways Infrastructure Project

Salary: £71,000 – £75,000 + Car Allowance (£4,700)

About the Project

Our client is delivering a major highways improvement scheme in Leicestershire, valued at approximately £40 million. The project involves significant infrastructure upgrades including roundabout improvements and new link road construction, designed to enhance regional connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. The scheme is being delivered under an NEC Option C contract.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function on this high-profile infrastructure project. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of all quantity surveying activities, leading a team of commercial professionals and ensuring robust financial and contractual management throughout the project lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a senior commercial role on a substantial infrastructure programme with a well-established contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all quantity surveying and commercial functions across the project
  • Provide accurate cost forecasting, reporting, and financial advice to senior stakeholders
  • Ensure full contract compliance and administer change control processes under NEC Option C
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, operational teams, and supply chain partners
  • Oversee procurement activities and manage subcontract packages
  • Provide mentorship and development support to junior commercial team members
  • Maintain robust commercial governance, risk management, and cost control

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years\’ experience in quantity surveying, with proven experience at senior or managing level
  • Demonstrable experience on infrastructure or highways projects
  • Strong technical knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly Option C
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage and develop team members
