The ADHD Specialist Independent Prescribers manage and treat Adult ADHD patients with medication initiation, titration, stabilization, and transfer to shared care. Interaction with patients occurs via our secure digital messaging system, with occasional telephone or video consultations. As a self-employed prescriber, your role includes prescribing medication, monitoring patient response, adjusting treatments, and conducting end-of-titration reviews.
Key Responsibilities- Provide independent and supplementary prescribing interventions, supporting Psychiatry UK Patients with medication initiation, review, and treatment decisions.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, identify side effects, and make prescribing changes per NICE guidelines (NG87) and Psychiatry UK standards.
- Use validated screening and monitoring tools to ensure excellent patient care and optimise treatment.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records, collaborating with patients and Consultant Psychiatrists.
- Ensure informed choice and shared decision-making with patients.
- Participate in out-of-office support to maintain the Titration Team's functions.
- Conduct risk assessments and review safeguarding needs during ongoing patient care.
- Manage your patient caseload effectively.
- Adhere to Psychiatry UK response time SLAs (within 3 working days).
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- First-level registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or First-level registered nurse (Adult Nurse/Children’s Nurse/Learning Disabilities Nurse) with at least one year post-qualification experience in secondary mental health services or further training (desirable).
- Independent & Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification with 1-year post-prescribing experience.
- One-year post-prescribing experience in a Specialist ADHD Service (including private or NHS secondary mental health practice) or equivalent.
- Secondary mental health experience involves inpatient care, community mental health teams, psychological wellbeing services, crisis resolution, home treatment teams, assertive outreach, and early intervention teams.
