We are working in partnership with a leading main contractor based in London for an Engineering & Technical Director. This individual would be responsible for the Technical function, a team of in-house personnel who support the business with specialist consultancy and expertise.
Accountabilities include ensuring the technical risks are being proactively managed, through pre-construction, delivery and aftercare, while working alongside other functional leads (Design, H&S, Supply chain & Quality, Sustainability, Planning & Project Controls) within the business whilst helping to actively and positively reinforce the collective effort.
The candidate would also be encouraged to develop the in-house engineering capability of the company, recruiting suitably competent personnel to bolster our broader operational capability. Linked to this, the business is hoping to attract new civil/structural chartered engineers to the business, helping to increase the depth of our day-to-day Construction Engineering capability, thus enhancing the roles currently held by site/package managers.
Knowledge: Chartered Civil/Structural engineer with a minimum of 15 years' experience working within Industry, leading across engineering and technical. Experience of managing and providing in-house engineering design services and temporary works designs. Demonstrable knowledge of working across a variety of sectors and a range of project values from minor works to major projects. Similarly, equal technical knowledge and experience, secured through either relevant technical qualifications or demonstrable experienced-based routeways.
Qualifications: Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer or equivalent, although applications will be reviewed also on merit.

- Fully conversant with BS5975 (the code of practice for temporary works), plus any other relevant codes related to Civil & Structural engineering, permanent works and technical expertise.
- Interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
- Advanced level of innovation and problem solving.
- Advanced technical knowledge in structural engineering and temporary works, working with a range of different materials.
- Design management and coordination skills.
- Ability to research, create and deliver technical training.
