Our client, a well-established and growing Mechanical & Electrical Design and Build Contractor, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Building Services Project Engineer to join their team based in Nottingham. Operating across a diverse range of industrial and commercial sectors, our client delivers complex mechanical and electrical building services projects valued from £50,000 to over £5 million. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware engineer to take ownership of projects from inception through to completion within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation.
The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Building Services Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the management, coordination, installation and commissioning of mechanical HVAC systems across multiple commercial and industrial projects. Working closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical HVAC system specifications and prepare construction drawings, schedules and technical documentation.
- Produce technical submissions and manage RFI communications.
- Procure materials and place orders with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Coordinate and manage site-based activities and subcontractor performance.
- Take commercial responsibility for projects from contract award through to final account.
- Prepare and agree monthly applications for payment.
- Monitor project costs, labour allocation, material expenditure and profitability.
- Manage variations, additional works and associated commercial negotiations.
- Attend client meetings, subcontractor meetings, site inspections and progress reviews.
- Resolve technical and construction-related issues as they arise.
- Organise and oversee commissioning, testing and handover activities.
- Prepare Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals and project close-out documentation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients where required.
- Maintain awareness of current HVAC technologies and industry developments.
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate will possess a combination of strong technical knowledge, project management capability and commercial awareness.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 10 years' experience within the Mechanical HVAC Design & Build sector.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, principles and building services engineering.
- Experience managing mechanical projects from pre-construction through to completion.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial and financial management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
Qualifications
Applicants should ideally hold: HNC, HND or Degree qualification in Mechanical Building Services Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates with alternative qualifications supported by significant industry experience will also be considered.

- Knowledge or exposure to Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.
