Ensuring all projects comply with the organisation's Design Management and Assurance Procedures and Quality Management System.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring design reviews are carried out in line with current standards to maximise buildability and constructability, identifying any weaknesses or errors that could jeopardise functionality while ensuring HSE best practices are always followed.
- Developing and managing effective communication and liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure requirements are identified, assessed, and appropriately integrated into projects.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant BS EN ISO standards.
- Ensuring compliance with Building Regulation Approved Document B.
- Ensuring compliance with FIA, LPCB, or FIRAS specifications as required by the project.
- Engaging with Client Fire Officers to ensure compliance and smooth project delivery.
- Liaising with local Fire Brigades as required to deliver compliant and accepted projects.
- Carrying out CAT 1 or CAT 2 design checks.
- Acting as Design Manager on smaller projects as required.
Qualifications
- Accredited Engineering Degree and Chartered Engineer status.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution (IET, IMechE, CIBSE, or equivalent).
- HSE qualification (SMSTS or IOSH), CSCS (AQP/PQP), and a full UK driving licence.
- LPCB Basic & Intermediate Design for Sprinkler Systems.
- FIA BS5839-1 Advanced Fire Detection and Units 3–5.
- BAFSA or LPCB Inspection, Testing and Commissioning of Sprinkler Systems.
Required Skills
- Broad engineering leadership experience across multiple disciplines and project phases.
- MEPHFC systems expertise and design assurance knowledge.
- Skilled in planning, budgeting, and performance reporting.
- Proficient in 2D/3D CAD, BIM (minimum Level 2), CDM 2015 compliance, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong client and stakeholder management skills with the ability to resolve site-based issues.
- Knowledge of design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.
Preferred Skills
- Sustainability and lifecycle design awareness.
- Exposure to DSEAR, ATEX, and hazardous area standards.
- Experience with maintenance-focused projects.
