A leading UK construction and building services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its London Construction team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Manager with experience in the education/DfE sector to take a key role in managing the design process across both pre-construction and project delivery stages.
You will be responsible for ensuring technically compliant, cost-effective and coordinated design packages are delivered in line with project requirements, programme and statutory obligations.
- Manage the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery.
- Coordinate architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, subcontractors and external design teams.
- Manage the production, review and approval of technical drawings and design information.
- Lead design workshops and client engagement meetings.
- Coordinate complex design packages and ensure they are fully integrated and buildable.
- Develop and manage the design programme, including TIDP and MIDP requirements.
- Identify and mitigate design and technical risks.
- Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, planning requirements and relevant statutory legislation.
- Support the selection and management of subcontractors responsible for Contractor Design Portions.
- Develop and review Design Responsibility Matrices and consultant scopes.
- Identify and develop value engineering opportunities with the wider project team.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the construction team.
- Drive digital construction, sustainability and BIM requirements throughout the project.
We're looking for a technically strong Design Manager who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience in Design Management within a main contractor environment.
- Ideally, experience delivering DfE, schools or education projects.
- Strong understanding of both design and construction processes.
- Experience coordinating consultants and specialist subcontractors.
- Understanding of Revit, AutoCAD and BIM Level 2 requirements.
- Experience with digital construction and document management systems.
- Strong understanding of design programmes, TIDPs, MIDPs and Design Responsibility Matrices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to confidently manage design risks and make informed decisions.
