I am recruiting on behalf of my client for an experienced Operations Director to lead and grow their data centre delivery capability. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an operationally strong and commercially minded professional with a proven background in data centres, critical environments and complex MEP delivery. Initially, this will be a site-based role, requiring flexibility to operate primarily across two live projects in the Yorkshire region, with wider national responsibility as the business continues to expand its data centre portfolio.

The Role

You will be responsible for providing hands-on operational leadership across live data centre projects, ensuring delivery is safe, efficient, commercially successful and to the highest quality standards. The role will suit an experienced leader who understands the demands of working within live and mission-critical environments and has successfully delivered fast-track refurbishment and complex MEP projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage senior stakeholders and play a key role in developing the organisation's wider data centre capability and market position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior operational leadership across current data centre projects.
  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary project delivery teams.
  • Manage key client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure operational continuity within live and critical environments.
  • Drive safe, timely and high-quality project delivery.
  • Support the development and expansion of the data centre project pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the organisation's data centre capability.
  • Develop and implement business plans to support future growth.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the wider Operational function.
  • Ensure effective governance, processes and consistent operational standards.
  • Drive capability development and high performance across the function.
  • Work closely with commercial teams to ensure effective integration between operational and commercial delivery.

About You

  • A strong engineering contracting background.
  • Significant experience within the data centre or mission-critical sector.
  • A proven track record delivering large-scale and complex MEP projects.
  • Experience working within live data centres or other critical environments.
  • Strong experience delivering fast-track refurbishment projects.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, time-critical environments.
  • Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to identify and develop new opportunities.
  • A track record of delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to a high standard.

Why This Opportunity?

This is a pivotal senior leadership position offering the opportunity to play a significant role in the growth and strategic development of a major data centre delivery capability. You will have the opportunity to influence both the successful delivery of a significant live project portfolio and the future direction of the organisation's data centre business nationally. If you are an experienced Operations Director, Operations Manager, Project Director or senior MEP leader with a strong data centre background and are looking for your next challenge, I would be keen to hear from you.
