A growing specialist M&E division within a well-established construction group is looking to appoint a Lead Commercial Manager to take full commercial ownership of its Mechanical & Electrical operation. This is a senior leadership role within a highly successful business that continues to expand its national footprint across retail, commercial, industrial, and public-sector frameworks.
With the wider group delivering over £120m in annual revenue and the M&E division contributing approximately £45m, this is a key strategic appointment for someone who can shape, run, and grow the commercial function.
The Role:
- Take full responsibility for the commercial performance of the M&E division.
- Oversee a growing commercial team currently consisting of several Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, with further planned expansion throughout 2026.
- Manage the commercial lifecycle of projects ranging from small reactive/upgrade works (£5k) through to major M&E packages up to £5m.
- Lead procurement, cost planning, subcontract management, valuations, forecasting, and final accounts.
- Support the development of commercial strategy as the division scales, ensuring robust processes and governance.
- Work closely with Operations, Pre-Construction, and the wider leadership team to ensure profitable delivery across all projects.
- Represent the M&E division internally and externally as the senior commercial point of contact.
Project Sectors:
- Retail (rollouts, refurbishments, full MEP installations)
- Commercial (offices, workplace upgrades, HVAC/electrical infrastructure)
- Industrial (warehousing, logistics, light industrial facilities)
- Public Sector Frameworks - including DfE (education) and NHS Trusts delivering critical M&E systems, upgrades and compliance-driven works
What We're Looking For:
- A commercially strong M&E professional (QS, Senior QS, Commercial Manager or Commercial Lead level).
- Solid background managing the full commercial lifecycle of mechanical & electrical projects.
- Experience handling a project portfolio of similar scale and complexity.
- Able to lead teams, build structure, implement processes, and develop people.
- Confident operating as the main commercial figure for a standalone M&E business unit.
- Strong communicator capable of working with high-profile private and public-sector clients.
A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical terminology, processes, and delivery methodology is essential.
