Our client is seeking an experienced Managing Director to take full ownership of a well-established infrastructure division and drive the next phase of growth.

About the Role

Are you a rail and civils leader with the ambition to build, grow, and lead a business? Following a recent restructure, this is a unique opportunity to lead a RISQS-accredited rail and civil engineering business with the autonomy, support, and investment needed to scale.

Responsibilities

  • Full P&L ownership, including forecasting, margins, profitability, and financial performance.
  • Drive business development activities and secure new contracts, frameworks, and strategic opportunities.
  • Build and develop high-performing teams across operations, commercial, and project delivery.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
  • Maintain compliance with RISQS, CDM regulations, SSOW requirements, and all safety-critical standards.
  • Work closely with the board and senior leadership team to shape and execute long-term business strategy.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience within rail infrastructure and/or civil engineering.
  • Previous Managing Director, Operations Director, Regional Director, Business Unit Director, or similar leadership experience.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable P&L ownership and commercial accountability.
  • Proven success in growing revenue, securing work, and scaling teams.
  • Strong knowledge of the Network Rail supply chain, RISQS accreditation, and safety-critical delivery environments.
  • A commercially astute leader with the ability to win work, build relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive profitability.
  • Someone who wants to build a business—not simply maintain one.
