We are recruiting an experienced Mechanical Lead to oversee the delivery of complex Data Centre projects across the Midlands and Home Counties. The Mechanical Lead will play a key role within the project leadership team, taking full ownership of mechanical services delivery on high-value, technically demanding schemes. This position is suited to an individual with a strong background working for a main contractor, particularly where mechanical packages are self-delivered. The role will involve close coordination with electrical, CSA, commercial, and commissioning teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Mechanical Lead for all mechanical services on assigned Data Centre projects
- Manage and oversee the self-delivery of mechanical packages, ensuring quality, safety, and productivity
- Coordinate mechanical works with electrical and structural teams to ensure seamless integration
- Lead mechanical delivery from design development through installation, commissioning, and final handover
- Review and manage mechanical design information, drawings, and technical submissions
- Monitor programme milestones and ensure mechanical works are delivered in line with the master programme
- Support cost control, change management, and value engineering initiatives
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards, statutory regulations, and data centre requirements
- Represent the mechanical function in client and stakeholder meetings as the designated Mechanical Lead
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a Mechanical Lead, M&E Manager, or Mechanical Project Manager role within a main contractor environment
- Strong experience delivering Data Centre or other mission-critical projects
- Demonstrable background in self-delivering mechanical services packages
- Excellent technical knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, cooling, pipework, and plant
- Experience working on projects valued between £25m and £150m
- Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills required of a Mechanical Lead
