Our client is a boutique asset management business that specialises in funding investment opportunities, secured via legal charges on UK property and commercial assets. Their dedicated team has a collective 150 years’ experience in property and finance, having invested throughout numerous property cycles and using their extensive knowledge of the wider property market.

Business growth has created the need for a Portfolio Analyst to join the team. This is a superb opportunity where you will have exposure to many facets of the business and play an integral part during an exciting time of change and growth.

The Role

As a Portfolio Analyst, you will be a key member of the Portfolio team, reporting into the Head of Analysis and Development, assisting with the proactive review of funding opportunities and management of the existing loan portfolio. This will be done whilst maintaining the firm's underwriting principles and investment mandate, all within a dynamic organisation.

The role will involve in-depth analysis and research of development loan applications from potential borrowers and providing the necessary input to the company’s credit committee, who oversee the credit assessment and approval process of the firm. The role will also involve supporting the firm's ongoing management of the existing loan portfolio, including relationships with developers/borrowers, conducting regular portfolio reviews to identify risks and providing general support within the wider Portfolio function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing in-depth due diligence on funding opportunities including sensitivity and scenario analysis, local market analysis and financial model analysis.
  • Collating data for and assisting in the preparation of credit papers and other board reports.
  • Assistance with the creation and ongoing maintenance and analytical review of internal models.
  • Completion of new Facility documentation once deals are approved.
  • Conduct regular market research and review of economic data to support the development of internal models and production of market analysis.
  • Assist with ad hoc audit and administration tasks including processing of interest and redemption statements, updating the portfolio management systems, production of regular and ad hoc internal and external reporting, maintenance of documents and files.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline tasks.
  • Ability to work with property professionals.
  • Building strong and lasting relationships with brokers/intermediaries and SME developers, whilst speaking to them daily to maximise opportunities and deliver decisions swiftly.
  • Supporting the wider business as a representative for the Portfolio team.
  • Visiting property developments both within the existing portfolio and as part of the due diligence for new funding opportunities.

Key Attributes

  • Highly numerate with good experience in data-driven analysis and problem solving.
  • Strong credit, financial analysis and modelling skills, including the ability to write good quality, structured credit papers.
  • Good understanding of financial risk concepts.
  • Legal documentation skills are useful.
  • Ability to work as part of a team whilst being comfortable to take project leads and work independently.
  • Resourceful problem solver with a focus on delivery (ability to multitask is also key).
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with a high tolerance for changing priorities.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues of all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to summarise findings of analysis to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent customer-facing skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders via phone and video calls.
  • Prior experience in the real estate debt industry is preferred.
  • A candidate with a full UK Driving Licence and their own vehicle is preferred.
