Overview

The Medical Illustrator is responsible for producing medical illustrations and animations for
standalone use or in support of larger print, video, and interactive web works. This is a fulltime
remote position.

Responsibilities

  • With direction from experienced physicians and in collaboration with the team, translate medical illustration and animation requirements, including scope, to final deliverable items for project plans
  • Followiterative design processes and project plans, create and revise medical illustrations and animations using qualified digital tools
  • Inside and outside formal planning processes, recommend creative approaches to designing materials for internal and external use
  • Develop and maintain a library of medical illustrations and animations for the purpose of archiving, auditing, and reuse
  • Appropriately manage design projects with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Contribute to the oversight of art and tool budgets in conjunction with other team members
  • Contribute to the maintenance and content of PSI style guides
  • Conduct ongoing research and report on emerging medical illustration trends, issues, and best practices to contribute to team innovation and expertise as well as inform revisions of iterative design processes
  • Occasionally apply design skills to non-medical design projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Illustration or Fine Art highly preferred
  • Board certification in Medical Illustration preferred
  • Full working proficiency in English
  • Familiarity, from a medical standpoint, with human physiology, anatomy, and major
    systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital design and animation tools including demonstrable
    skill with the Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent tools.
  • Working knowledge of design best practices regarding, but not limited to, usage
    rights, art budgeting, and production timelines
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D animation is preferred but not required
  • Scanning and digital photography experience useful but not required
  • Ability to participate in a dynamic environment that thrives on team-oriented
    contributions
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel.
