This is an excellent opportunity for a real estate focused tax professional to lead and shape the tax function in an established operational real estate business which has a UK & Mainland European focus.
The successful candidate will have end-to-end responsibility for all tax matters across the operational portfolio, spanning multiple jurisdictions. The role plays a critical part in supporting business growth, investment activity, and governance as part of a global, private equity-backed real estate business. The successful individual will require a minimum of 5-10 years tax experience and combine strong technical tax expertise with a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and the investors’ tax team to ensure robust compliance, effective tax planning, and proactive risk management.
Main Objectives:
- Take ownership of tax across the Generator business, providing leadership, oversight, and trusted advice on all tax-related matters.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax compliance across all jurisdictions in which Generator operates.
- Support strategic transactions and ongoing investment activity through high-quality tax input and risk assessment.
- Establish and maintain strong governance, controls, and processes aligned with the standards of a global multinational group.
Tax Compliance and Reporting:
- Supervise the end-to-end tax compliance process, including preparation and review of tax returns.
- Manage and coordinate external tax advisors providing European and international tax compliance and advisory support.
- Review and oversee tax outputs for quarterly reporting consolidated by Brookfield.
- Support investor reporting requirements, including US and Canadian tax-related requests.
Transactions, Structuring and Due Diligence:
- Lead and collaborate on tax due diligence for acquisitions, disposals, and refinancing transactions across the portfolio.
- Provide tax input into transaction structuring to optimise outcomes while managing risk.
- Review financial models, SPAs, loan documentation, and other legal agreements from a tax perspective.
- Maintain ongoing tax oversight of investments throughout their full lifecycle.
Advisory, Planning and Risk Management:
- Provide proactive, practical tax advice to Finance, Legal, and other corporate functions.
- Maintain regular engagement with the investors’ tax team to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation across relevant jurisdictions and proactively identify risks, solutions, and opportunities.
- Assist with tax planning, strategy development, and risk management initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing requirements and internal risk management policies.
Forecasting, Governance and Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to tax forecasts and support the preparation of annual and periodic business plans.
- Implement and enhance tax controls, processes, and documentation in line with best practice.
- Drive continuous improvement in tax governance, reporting, and efficiency as the business grows.
- Support broader finance and cross-functional initiatives as required.
Leadership Accountability and Organisational Integrity:
- Act as a trusted advisor and role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
