Summary

We are seeking an experienced Head of Learning & Engagement to lead the organisation's learning, development and employee engagement agenda.

This is a broad, transformational role combining Learning & Development, employee engagement, digital employee experience and operational training.

The successful individual will continue to develop and implement a forward-thinking learning strategy, whilst driving engagement and connection across a large, operational workforce.

One of the element’s of the role will be ownership of the organisation's employee app and digital learning environment, ensuring technology is used effectively to improve communication, learning, efficiency and the overall employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continue to develop and lead a comprehensive Learning & Development strategy aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Own and continuously enhance the organisation's employee app, driving adoption, engagement and improved employee experience.
  • Manage the relationship with the technology provider and identify opportunities to maximise the platform's capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver employee engagement and communication initiatives that strengthen culture, connection and employee experience.
  • Lead the operational training framework, ensuring training remains compliant with relevant regulatory and industry standards.
  • Drive the digitalisation of training, induction and work instructions, creating engaging and efficient learning experiences.
  • Develop competency-based learning and assessment programmes to improve employee performance, capability and compliance.
  • Lead the wider L&D offering across leadership, management development, early careers, talent development and career progression.
  • Implement a robust Training Needs Analysis (TNA) process linked to performance reviews and organisational priorities.
  • Develop structured learning pathways to support employee development and career progression.
  • Ensure effective management of training records and support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Develop learning and engagement metrics and reporting to measure effectiveness and demonstrate business impact.
  • Lead and influence stakeholders across the organisation to embed a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across learning and employee engagement.
  • The successful candidate will be a resilient, innovative and collaborative L&D leader with a strong track record of delivering learning and engagement initiatives in a complex organisation.

You will ideally have

  • Significant experience in a senior Learning & Development / Learning & Engagement role.
  • Experience developing and implementing a strategic L&D agenda.
  • Experience working with large, operational or frontline workforces.
  • Strong experience in digital learning and/or employee experience transformation.
  • Experience managing learning technology, employee platforms or digital workplace solutions.
  • Strong understanding of competency frameworks, TNA, performance development and learning pathways.
  • Experience managing training within a regulated, safety-critical or compliance-driven environment would be advantageous.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation.
  • A proven ability to lead projects and deliver change in a complex environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for employee engagement, learning and organisational development.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent professional experience would be desirable.
