Key Account Manager β UK Ministry of Defence
Driving Strategic Relationships at the Heart of Defence.
I have been retained by a highly specialist UK SME in CEMA, Counter-IED and Counter-UAS technology to appoint a dynamic, commercially astute Key Account Manager to take ownership of all business-winning activity with UK Government departments, with a primary focus on the Ministry of Defence. This pivotal role will see you embedded deep within the UK Defence ecosystem β shaping opportunities, building trusted relationships, and driving growth across critical national security markets.
Reporting to the Sales Director, you will own and deliver a pipeline of opportunities aligned with ambitious business targets, while acting as the focal point for stakeholder engagement at every level β from desk officers to senior decision-makers. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact within a nimble, highly capable team that values initiative, flexibility, and results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary interface for all sales and business development activity with UK Government departments, focusing on UK MOD, FCDO, Home Office and 5 Eyes partner nations.
- Identify, qualify, pursue, and secure opportunities in line with strategic business objectives.
- Lead bid activity, drawing on internal expertise to ensure the planning and execution of winning proposals.
- Maintain and grow the sales pipeline, driving opportunities through to successful contract award.
- Develop and maintain a stakeholder engagement plan to promote company capabilities and anticipate future customer requirements and policy shifts.
- Ensure compliance with PV Grading, F680, Export Licence controls, ISO standards and national security frameworks for List X contractors.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Proven track record of winning business with UK Government customers, ideally within Defence.
- Strong understanding of MOD contracting and approvals processes.
- Familiarity with RF technology and its operational applications.
- Ability to translate user needs into clear requirements.
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.
- Operational, product and/or training expertise in a relevant domain.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with energy, resilience, and a commitment to delivering results in a pressured environment.
- Active network across DE&S, MOD Main Building, STRATCOM and the Single Services, from desk level to 2β3* level.
- Experience engaging with JES and JSENS Project Teams.
- Familiarity with business-winning best practice and proposal writing.
