Regional Building Surveyor – Out of Town Retail / Roadside Estate

PSD are recruiting 2 Regional Building Surveyors for a leading client-side retail and roadside operator with a substantial UK-wide estate. This is a high-volume, operational roadside retail portfolio – fast-paced, constantly evolving, and absolutely central to the business’s commercial performance.

Significant ongoing investment is being deployed across the estate, including new site openings, refurbishments, reconfigurations, and logistics/warehouse upgrades, creating a busy and highly active pipeline of work.

The Opportunity

We are seeking Regional Building Surveyors to join the Property & Construction team, reporting into the Head of Construction. This is a field-based regional role, responsible for delivering a broad mix of capital projects, revenue works, maintenance programmes and dilapidations across a defined portfolio of roadside retail and service assets. You will take ownership of schemes from initial instruction through to completion, ensuring all works are delivered safely, compliantly, on programme and within budget within live trading environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake inspections across a busy regional portfolio of roadside retail sites
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, statutory requirements and internal standards
  • Review drawings, specifications and contractor proposals
  • Monitor live works in operational, customer-facing environments
  • Produce clear reports, defect analysis and remedial action recommendations
  • Manage contractors and consultants across multiple concurrent projects
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance across the estate
  • Support compliance, safety and sustainability initiatives across the portfolio
  • Stay current with regulatory changes impacting operational retail property

About You

  • Background in Building Surveying, Construction or Property Project Delivery
  • Strong experience in defect diagnosis and building pathology
  • Good understanding of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety compliance
  • Experience in live operational or multi-site environments
  • Confident managing multiple projects across a regional portfolio
  • Strong understanding of building compliance and statutory requirements
  • Knowledge of building services (M&E) advantageous
  • CAD experience or willingness to develop
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • MRICS or MCIOB desirable but not essential, with development support available.
