A large, complex Transport organisation is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to play a key role in reviewing, analysing, and transforming the payroll landscape. The role will focus initially on developing a comprehensive understanding of the current ("as is") payroll environment, including processes, systems, controls, and data flows across a complex, operational workforce. Following the analysis phase, the Business Analyst will evaluate and present future-state options, which may include outsourcing payroll services or implementing a new internal payroll platform. Once a target model is agreed, the role will transition into supporting the design, delivery, and implementation of the selected solution(s), ensuring alignment with business needs and operational realities. This is a pivotal opportunity to contribute to a large-scale payroll transformation within a dynamic, frontline-focused organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed analysis of current payroll processes, systems, and operating models across the organisation.
- Map "as is" payroll workflows, identifying inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Engage with key stakeholders across HR, Finance, Operations, and IT to gather requirements and insights.
- Develop clear documentation, including process maps, data flows, and system architecture assessments.
- Evaluate and recommend future payroll solutions, including outsourced payroll service models and/or internal payroll system implementation options.
- Support the development of business cases, including cost-benefit analysis and risk assessments.
- Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications for future solutions.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to assess system capabilities (e.g. Dayforce and similar platforms).
- Play a key role in the implementation phase, including solution design and configuration support, data migration planning and validation, testing (UAT) coordination and execution, and change management and user adoption activities.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience as a Business Analyst working on Payroll projects.
- Strong end-to-end payroll knowledge, including legislation, compliance, and operational processes.
- Demonstrable experience analysing and transforming payroll functions in complex organisations.
- Experience working in organisations with large frontline workforces (e.g. transport, retail, logistics, or similar sectors).
- Experience evaluating and/or implementing payroll systems and platforms.
- Familiarity with payroll technologies such as Dayforce (highly desirable) or equivalent systems.
- Experience supporting payroll outsourcing assessments or transitions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across multiple business functions.
- Solid documentation skills, including process mapping, requirements gathering, and reporting.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and present clear insights.
- Understanding of project delivery methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches).
