Why Join Us? We are a global electrical engineering consultancy supporting top energy organisations, including regulated utilities, renewable developers and major infrastructure owners. Our teams solve complex power system challenges by applying deep technical expertise, independent thinking, and a collaborative mindset. We offer flexible working arrangements, genuine autonomy, and a culture built on respect and trust. You’ll join a supportive, specialist team with strong technical capability in HV earthing, lightning protection, and AC interference. Regular face‑to‑face collaboration is encouraged to maintain connection and shared learning, even within a predominantly flexible working environment.

Location, Travel & Site Work: We have offices in Edinburgh and Newcastle and whilst many of our staff work remotely across the UK, this role is primarily focused on southern Scotland, though you may travel across the UK to support project needs. Expect 2–3 nights away from home during active site survey weeks. Site work can involve physically demanding tasks, including inspections and electrical measurements. A full UK driving licence is required.

What You’ll Do: Our Earthing & Lightning Protection team consists of two Technicians plus the Team Leader and you’ll take ownership of delivering our long‑term regional earthing framework across southern Scotland. You will plan and execute site surveys at high‑voltage substations, lead complex earthing and lightning protection studies, and ensure all work complies with UK standards.

  • Lead and independently deliver earthing system studies that meet UK specifications and client requirements.
  • Conduct HV substation site surveys, including soil resistivity testing, earthing system measurements, continuity checks and visual inspections.
  • Perform lightning protection assessments, completing detailed technical risk assessments and protection system designs.
  • Deliver complex AC interference and impressed voltage studies.
  • Produce high‑quality technical documentation and engineering reports.
  • Work directly with clients to define scopes, provide technical guidance and manage expectations.
  • Develop project schedules, actions, risks, and decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Mentor junior consultants and review their technical work.

Experience & Skills: Typically around 6 years' experience in HV earthing design, measurement and system assessment. Strong working knowledge of SES CDEGS or similar tools. Experience completing substation earthing surveys. Competency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD). Degree in Electrical Engineering; Chartered or Incorporated status welcomed or in progress. Strong communication, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Whilst an understanding of AC interference, impressed voltage and lightning protection engineering would be advantageous, it is not essential as training can be provided.

We Provide: Life insurance, Private medical insurance, 25 days annual leave, Profit sharing, Up to 7% pension contribution, Income protection, Up to £5,000 per year study reimbursement.
