P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our client, who is currently recruiting for a Deputy Manager to join their team based in East Tilbury on a full-time, permanent basis.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Registered Manager in overseeing the safe and effective running of a residential home for children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • To implement a rota system that ensures the most effective deployment of staff to always support the needs of the children.
  • To support a culture of quality and curiosity through advice, guidance and supervision to team members.
  • Lead and manage the children’s home, ensuring exceptional care and support for young individuals in residence.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and adherence to regulatory standards, including The Children’s Homes Regulations, Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and company policies.
  • To assist with the safer recruitment of staff within the home in conjunction with the Responsible Individual and Registered Manager where appropriate.
  • Oversee the home's staff team, guiding and facilitating their growth and development.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and commissioners' specifications and adherence to an individual’s relevant plans.
  • Work with the Registered Manager to maintain optimal conditions in the running of the home to ensure occupancy levels are aligned with business needs and the requirements of the young people in placement.
  • To ensure effective oversight of the home to maintain the home’s Statement of Purpose and always ensure the home functions in line with this.
  • To contribute to ensuring the home is staffed by a suitably qualified and experienced staff team by overseeing individual staff development by way of their induction, personal development plans, in-house training programmes, and external training.
  • Actively promote and maintain a close working partnership with parents/carers and other significant people in the lives of children, to promote their best interests and ensure positive outcomes.
  • To ensure that staff are familiar with and adhere to all relevant plans (care plan, individual risk assessments, behaviour support plans, EHCP’s etc.) as agreed for the children in the home.
  • To ensure that guidelines for the administration and safe keeping of Medication are made available to all members of staff and that these are adhered to.
  • To deputise for the Registered Manager for aspects of day-to-day operational management of the home.
  • You will be required to share on-call responsibilities with the Registered Manager.
  • Contribute actively to strategic planning and development within the organisation, offering support to other service areas when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ post qualifying (Level 3) experience working within supervisory experience in an Ofsted registered Children’s Home.
  • Previous experience in a similar role as a Deputy Manager (children's home environment), Senior Residential Support Worker or Team Leader with experience supervising shifts, and staff.
  • Level 5 Leadership and Management in Children’s Residential qualification or equivalent, or willingness to undertake this.
  • Ability to show leadership skills in ensuring safe and effective planning within the home.
  • Direct involvement in external quality assurance visits such as leading on Reg 44 visits and Ofsted inspections.
  • Experience of managing and administrating systems of petty cash.
