The Temporary HSE Manager will be responsible for conducting a thorough review of current Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) practices, identifying gaps, and implementing practical improvements. The role focuses on strengthening compliance, standardising processes, and embedding a proactive safety culture across the organisation within a defined timeframe.
Main Responsibilities
- Produce clear, practical HSE procedures, guidance, and operational documentation aligned to ISO standards and client expectations.
- Deliver a prioritised HSE action plan with defined timescales, responsibilities, measurable outcomes, and supporting documentation.
- Produce updated event reporting processes, reporting tools, risk controls, and safe systems of work documentation for business use.
- Provide management with practical recommendations, documented outputs, and evidence of progress against agreed HSE objectives, ISO standards, and client expectations.
Implementation & Improvement
- Develop and implement a structured HSE improvement plan with clear priorities.
- Update and standardise procedures, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
- Introduce practical control measures to reduce operational risks.
- Ensure corrective actions from audits and inspections are effectively closed out.
Cultural & Behavioural Safety
- Promote a visible and proactive safety culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Engage with management and operational teams to drive accountability for HSE.
- Deliver toolbox talks, workshops, and coaching sessions to improve awareness and behaviours.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure alignment with relevant legal requirements and internal policies.
- Lead and strengthen event, incident, near miss, and unsafe condition reporting processes across the business.
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of HSE KPIs and performance reporting systems.
- Support preparation for external audits or client inspections.
Advisory & Leadership
- Act as a key HSE advisor to management during the contract period.
- Provide practical, solution-oriented guidance tailored to operational realities.
- Support decision-making by identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
- HSE qualification – NEBOSH essential.
- Proven experience in reviewing and improving HSE management systems.
- Strong background in industry: e.g., marine, port operations – not essential but highly desirable.
- Experience with ISO management systems implementation or improvement.
- Demonstrated success in driving HSE improvements in operational environments.
Working Hours
Monday – Friday 08:30 – 16:30 (can be flexible) 1 day working from home.
