Job Requirements
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Design Engineer to join our Power Grids Engineering Design Team, supporting the EGL1 project. Our Engineering Design Team is responsible for the design and installation of High Voltage Cable systems for a diverse range of clients. The team forms part of our Power Grids Business, providing customers with a diverse range of services, from the supply of cable to jointing services and full turn‑key installation projects. The successful individual will work on a large cross‑country HV Cable Installation project delivering an effective, safe, cost‑efficient design solution, liaising closely with site engineers to ensure the project is delivered within time, to budget, to the required specification and with risks mitigated.
Key Activities And Responsibilities
- Understanding Customer Requirements and relevant National Grid specifications / standards
- Risk assessment, mitigation & management
- Understanding design requirements for installation
- Compiling Project Engineering Design Packs for Site Teams
- Chairing site design review meetings and coordinating the approvals process
- On‑going liaison with all teams throughout project – attending regular site meetings, developing excellent communication channels and maximising collaboration to monitor progress and identify/resolve issues
- Design Document management & Control
- Managing Change Management Procedures
- Development and tracking of design Programme
- Collect and analyse As‑Built Data
Skills And Experience
Applications are welcome from qualified graduates in Civil Engineering, Project Management or a related subject.
Key Personal Attributes Will Include
- Project Design Management experience
- Experience in cross‑country utilities projects would be an advantage
- Risk Analysis
- Document Management and KPI reporting

- Held National Grid CDAE Role
- A structured, systematic approach and good attention to detail
