The Goods Inwards Operator is responsible for ensuring timely unloading of vehicles and storing items in the appropriate area while correctly entering them in the system.
They also manage the flow of goods and scrap materials around the site, ensuring appropriate storage, spreadsheets, and SAP transactions are performed.
- Main Responsibilities
- Off Loading of vehicles at the relevant unloading door
- Ensuring vehicles are unloaded in a timely manner
- Inspection of goods arriving to ensure they are in good condition
- Checking documentation to ensure details and quantities are correct
- Awareness of due list to ensure any preparation required has happened ready for the incoming delivery
- All documentation is signed and put away in good order
- Booking deliveries into SAP
- Ensure all correct transactions are being used
- Ensure all data is being added accurately

- Moving goods physically between required locations
- Moving goods on SAP to ensure accurate records of movements
- Ensuring FIFO rotation is being used with all materials
- Cycle counting β rota issued by Materials Manager
- OM inventory daily check and updating Materials Manager to order
- Covering roles in team absence
- Weighbridge ticket control
- Waste documentation management
- Month end stock activities
- Ad-hoc activities as issued by departmental Manager
- Departmental Responsibilities
- Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental policies always.
- Customer Service: Delivery a high level of service to internal customers, namely, planning, operations & controlling.
- Continuous Improvement: Always be reviewing processes to deliver continuous improvement to optimise the goods inwards department and cost reduction activities.
- The Person
- Experience: Previous experience working in a Goods Inwards Department and use of SAP.
- Pressure Management: Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible to meet demanding deadlines.
- Technical Skills: Keen attention to detail. Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office Applications and SAP and inventory management.
- Attitude: A can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and embrace change.
